The very first blog I've ever done! Really behind with this sort of thing.... four years after Serenity CIC was officially a Community Interest Company back in June 2016!
Just wanted to do a quick look over how we got started before we moved into our premises and how we got here....
We spent the first three years developing our training in Mindfulness for Young People through getting involved in a number of local schools. This was possible through funding from:
Awards for All: Delivering a Mindfulness Programme to over 800 local children and young people.
Children in Need: Delivering a Mindfulness & Movement Programme to 100 children and young people with Autism
We also had other funding from Tesco Bags for Help and Wigan's Deal for Communities to run a number of Yoga classes for the community.
Over the years we also developed a shorted 5 week course for Year 6 pupils before their SATs.
What we Learned: Its tough setting up an organisation, funding applications are a massive learning journey but never give up! Some you get, some you don't...it's nothing personal if you don't get them... but if at first you don't succeed try try again! Ask for help! Network! Do things for free! Get the evidence you need!
We have met some wonderful adults and young people along the way, and forged some great connections with schools and other CIC's. And, back in 2018 we decided we would love to have a base, that's when we started to looking for a premises we could work from, and along with Wigan Workshop CIC and Opal Dance we started the hunt for a premises we could all share and develop....
So we began a new journey, and from the beginning when starting up Studio Serenity CIC, after working in schools for so long (even before as a teacher) I'd never dreamed of having a studio base and how working with other organisations would strengthen what the wonderful organisations in Wigan do for each other.
